James Max Gossett
I was born in Alabama during the Korean War and grew up there during the race to the moon.
I completed the Pacific Jubilee spiritual direction program in 1995 when it was offered at the Vancouver School of Theology. After this training, I went to graduate school to become a psychotherapist and then to get a PhD. After that I found myself in Zurich. I am a Diplomate of Analytical Psychology (Zürich) which means I trained in Switzerland to become a Jungian analyst. I am a member of the C. G. Jung Institute of Seattle, Washington.
I am a contemplative Anglican acquainted with mysticism. I appreciate the alchemical elements in Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, and the wisdom traditions. Thomas Merton has remained an enduring influence on my life and I came to spiritual direction through a series of events led by psyche.
Currently, I am lecturing on the art of transformation and how to read fairy tales as road maps for inner work. In my spiritual direction practice I appreciate dreams and following the lead of the inner guide.
I offer spiritual direction utilizing Jungian psychoanalysis in-person, by phone, and via video conferencing. I offer a sliding-scale fee.
“I am certain of nothing but the holiness of the heart’s affections, and the truth of the imagination. What imagination seizes as beauty must be truth.” — John Keats (letter to Benjamin Bailey, November 22, 1817)
“The real journey in life is interior, it is a matter of growth, deepening, and of an ever-greater surrender to the creative love and grace in our hearts.” — Thomas Merton (The Asian Journal of Thomas Merton, p. 296)
