Darrow Woods
I live in Kingsville, in Essex County, Ontario, and will retire at the end of 2024 from my role as pastor at the United Church in nearby Harrow. I'm an avid cyclist and less enthusiastic runner. I apply much of what I learned about our lives as spiritual beings to my volunteer work as a police chaplain, and also to my fiction writing.
My novel, “The Book of Answers” was shortlisted for a Crime Writers of Canada award. The protagonist is a recently widowed pastor who is drawn by circumstances into the role of reluctant sleuth. He is as at least as interested in solving the small mysteries in the story, as in his encounters with Mystery, in the larger Story.
I’m deeply grateful for my time with the Ontario Jubilee Program, as a student, and as a former member of the core staff. I’ve also enjoyed a fruitful connection with the School for Contemplative Living, based in New Orleans.
Many who connect with me for direction are in some process of discernment about their call to ordered ministry. Those who meet with me seem to appreciate my experience of life in the church, my honesty, my ability to listen without judgement, and my sense of humour.
I am happy to meet in person, virtually by Zoom, or on the phone.
