In the illustrated story of Frederick by Leo Lionni, the other field mice complain to Frederick that he is just sitting in the sun while they are gathering food into storage.
“Are you dreaming, Frederick?”
“O no, I am gathering words. For the winter days are long and many.”
And when all the stored food was gone Frederick shared with them all he had gathered on those warm days of summer. And they applauded.
Yes, there is a time for gathering words for winter, words for the time when nothing else will satisfy our hungers in the long dark months.
In these five late autumn sessions, we will take time to gather the words of poets who will not only nourish us on winter days, but also deepen us into the gifts of the dark season when silence and soul work show themselves as another kind of light.
The poetry will be offered in five themes in the five sessions.
