As a Spiritual Companion
Tom is a long-serving spiritual director/companion/coach, trained through Jubilee Associates Ontario. He also serves on the Wisdom Circle of the Pacific Jubilee Program that trains in spiritual direction in British Columbia, Canada. Tom has a registered spiritual companioning practice and offers re-missioning supports to faith, religious and spiritual communities through Reflective Presence Ministry. Tom brings a breadth of interfaith knowledge and practice to his spiritual companioning. He is at home with: Christianity (Anglicanism, Catholicism, ecumenism); Buddhism (Theravada); Sufism (Universal); the Spiritual not religious; Agnosticism; Atheism; and a general understanding of Judaism, Kabbalah, and Hinduism. From Simon Fraser University, he holds a minor in Philosophy focused on ethics, and from Staffordshire University, he holds an MA in Sustainable Development. Tom also is trained in “Sacred Presence with the Dying” through the Sacred Dying Foundation. Tom is an early entrant into online spiritual companioning, with his ministry offered either in-person or via Zoom or over the telephone, for all of lay, seminarian or ordained persons. Until his association with Vancouver Island, Tom was the spiritual director for the “Julian of Norwich Ministry of Spiritual Companioning”, based out of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Vancouver and was appointed by the then-Bishop of New Westminster (which includes the City of Vancouver, Canada) as Co-Chair of the "Ecumenical and Multifaith Committee" of that diocese. When a snowbird, Tom is in partnership with St. Michael and All Angels Anglican/Episcopal Church, Cuernavaca in México, through whom he offers Spiritual Companioning and Pastoral Counselling supports for this parish community and to support the local expat community. Additionally, Tom is also a trained pastoral counsellor with specialties in: active listening; grief; ageing and eldering; Buddhist counselling and Buddhist end-of-life care; cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT); cross-cultural dynamics; the LGBTQ2+ community; grief, loss and end-of-life; narrative therapy; and suicide prevention. Tom is trained as a Reiki Level II practitioner.
